KARBI ANGLONG: The third edition of the Karbi Anglong Premier League (KAPL) got underway at the Hanjanglangso Sports Association playground.

The Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, who is also the President of Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA), Tuliram Ronghang, on Wednesday inaugurated the Premier League, which was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Avijit Kro, EM Surjya Rongphar, Madhuram Lekthe, and MAC Kadom Terangpi.

The ceremonial event was chaired by Karbi Anglong Cricket Association president Sardili Terang. CEM Ronghang announced a budget allocation of ₹10 lakh for the league and player equipment starting next year. The next Karbi Anglong Premier League (KAPL) will be held in West Karbi Anglong.

In the inaugural match, Jirpo Chingrum CA faced off against Royal Rhino CA. Jirpo Chingrum CA set a target of 125 runs in 20 overs, which Royal Rhino CA successfully chased down, winning by 6 wickets. Vicky Hanse was awarded Man of the Match. The league honors the memory of Tung-eh Longkamar, the father of KAAC, EM Surjya Rongphar.

Meanwhile, the second round of the 7th edition of the Assam Premier Club Championship (APCC) 2024-25, featuring the Intra-Zonal league matches, commenced on February 17 across multiple venues in the state. The competition will take place in six zones—Upper Assam, Central Assam, Northern Assam, Lower Assam, Southern Assam, and the Headquarters Zone.
