KAZIRANGA: Assam's Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has welcomed a record 164,636 visitors, since its reopening in October 2024, across its four ranges, marking the highest tourist influx in the past 20 years, according to officials.

The park generated a revenue of Rs 43,226,225 from entry fees, highlighting its increasing popularity and the success of recent initiatives, the official noted. Typically, the park remains open from October to May and then takes a break during the monsoon season.

In October 2024, the park saw 30,058 visitors, a significant increase from 17,271 in the same month the previous year. November recorded 53,367 tourists, up from 35,006 in 2023, and December saw a rise to 81,211 visitors, compared to 65,139 in December 2023, the official added.

Koliabhomora boat tourism has also become a major draw, attracting 1,406 domestic and 819 foreign tourists. This resulted in a revenue of Rs 10,46,950. The addition of new tourism activities, including bird watching, trekking, and cycling tracks, has been key in drawing more visitors, he added.

Meanwhile, the previous month, Manas National Park, situated in the foothills of Bhutan in Baksa district of BTC in Assam, registered surging revenue collections as tourist footfalls increased in the National Park.

Sources from the Tourism BTC said that Manas National Park earned Rs 33 lakh in revenue over the past two months.

The impressive figures came from a surge in visitors, with around 9,000 tourists, both domestic and foreign travelers, visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site during this period. Sources also stated that the rise in visitors significantly increased after the return of peace in the BTC region.
