BOKAKHAT: This year, bear sightings in Kaziranga brought joy to the visiting tourists. In the final days before the end of the current tourism season, the rare sight of bears roaming freely thrilled visitors. Notably, the 2024–25 tourism season, which began in October last year, will conclude on Monday. That means Kaziranga National Park will be closed to tourists starting May 19. The ongoing jeep safaris will also be suspended from the same date. Even in these final days, the park continued to see a steady influx of visitors. Among them, some lucky tourists on a jeep safari in the Kohora range of the park were fortunate enough to witness bears. For the past three consecutive days, bears have been spotted in the Kohora forest area, delighting those on safari. While rhinos and the elusive Royal Bengal Tigers generally captivate and attract tourists, the park has recently seen a rise in tiger sightings, adding a new dimension to the Kaziranga experience. Tiger sightings, once rare, have become more frequent in recent years, increasing the number of tourists hoping to catch a glimpse. Now, the presence of bears has added a unique flavour to the Kaziranga experience. Tourists have been sharing photos and videos on social media showing bears in various poses and movements along the forest trails of Kohora. It is expected that in the upcoming tourism season, visitors will look forward to seeing not only rhinos and tigers but also bears. It is worth mentioning that elephant safaris in the park were already suspended from May 1, and now jeep safaris will cease from May 19. With this, the 2024–25 tourism season will officially come to an end. During this period, Kaziranga welcomed nearly 5 lakh tourists and generated revenue exceeding 10 crore rupees, marking a successful season for the park authorities.
