DOOMDOOMA: Nagen Talukdar (55), a kettle-drum (nagara nam) player and a petty trader of Ambikagiri road of the town died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMC&H), Dibrugarh. According to reports although he was wearing a helmet, yet he suffered head injury due to fall from his scooter as a consequence of sudden cardiac arrest on the Makum-Tinsukia bypass on March 8. Since then he was under treatment at AMC&H, Dibrugarh.
He was a member of Doomdooma Nagara Nam Sangha and was a dedicated religious disciple of the Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru Natyamandir Samiti (DAPANMS). He was very friendly and he supported his family of four by running a small grocery shop at home.
He is survived by his wife Kanika, two Bihu dancer sons Gaurikanta and Khanin, two elder and younger brothers and a host of relatives. His death has cast a pall of gloom and was mourned by Doomdooma Nagara Nam Sangha, Ambikagiri Road Srikrishna temple Samiti, Doomdooma Shiva Mandir Samiti, Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samiti, Doomdooma Senior Citizens Association, Doomdooma Satodal Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Doomdooma Traders Association, Azad Road Kali Mandir Samiti, Doomdooma Namghar Samiti, Doomdooma Press Club and Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha. He was cremated at Doomdooma Smashan Ghat on Thursday evening amid large number of admirers present.
