Assam: Khel Maharan-2023 kicks off in Nalbari

NALBARI: LAC-level games of Khel Maharan-2023 kicked off in Nalbari on Monday. PHE Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah along with Nalbari DC Varnali Deka inaugurated the LAC level games of Nalbari LAC at a programme held at Government Gurdon Higher Secondary School playground on Monday. A total of around 13000 selected players during the gram panchayat level games, held in the three assembly constituencies of the district namely Nalbari, Dharampur and Barkhetri in various sports events like- athletics, football, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi etc., will participate in the LAC level games. The 4332 players from Nalbari Assembly constituency will participate in the Assembly level games which will continue till December 8.

During his inaugural speech at the event, Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said that sports is an amazing way that teaches us teamwork, discipline and coordination. Further in his speech he announced to provide a pair of uniform to the players who will be representing the constituency at the next level.

Nalbari District Commissioner Varnali Deka in her speech said that Nalbari is a pool of potential sports talents and said that Nalbari will have a special dominance in the state level games of ‘Khel Maharan-2023’. While extending few words of encouragement to the players, she quoted few lines from world famous boxer Jack Morrison saying that there will be obstacles in the game but only those who can move forward despite the obstacles can only succeed at the end. She encouraged the athletes to win medals at the state level and bring honour to the district and expressed her best wishes for the same.

On the very first day of Nalbari LAC level games, 100mtr/ 200mtr/400mtr/800mtr races were held for both boys and girls and more than 600 athletes from 19 Gaon Panchayats and one Municipal Board of Nalbari constituency participated. The remaining sports events will be held accordingly.

The inaugural ceremony of the Dharampur constituency level games will be held at Chamta Regional Sports Association Stadium on November 28. Likewise, the inaugural ceremony of the Barkhetri constituency level games will be held on November 29 at Deshbhakt Maidan, Mukalmua.
