TINSUKIA: A Kishan Mela-cum-Exhibition was organized at KVK Tinsukia today. Various farmers’ produce like local organic vegetables, biofortified vegetables, value added products from fruits & vegetables, millets, rice, local rice varieties, other value added products, vermicompost, varmiwash, etc. were displayed in the exhibition. More than 200 farmers participated in the programme.
The programme began with lighting of the lamp. While the Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Tinsukia Mrinmoy Chetia welcomed all the dignitaries and the farmers present in the programme, he also conducted a training programme on natural and organic farming.
Graced by Chinmoy Pathak ADC, the farmers were addressed by District Agricultural Officer Rajit Dutta, Nobin Sonowal, and Reba Kanta Kalita, AEE Irrigation Department Dr Hiramoni Deka, VO, Veterinary Department, Chief Manager, SBI Tinsukia Rakesh Gupta, and Ex-DEE Dr Heman Bhattacharyya who spoke on method demonstration on vermicomposting and sustainable agricultural practices. A farmer-scientist interaction was also held where queries regarding the use and preparation of organic inputs like manures, biofertilizers, pesticides, etc. and balanced use of inorganic fertilizers were covered. Saplings were also distributed to the participants to make them aware of the need to restore the environment.
