Goalpara : The five days Krishnai Book Fair that began on Sunday at Krishnai veterinary field concluded on Thursday with an unexpected overwhelming response.
Besides purchasing books worth about 6 lakh rupees from the stalls, everyday thousands of teachers, students, guardians and people from different walk of life thronged the venue and made it a grand success.
Three book sellers and publishers from Guwahati, Gayatri Prakaxan, Prabha Publication, Nabadoy Prakaxan and one publication from Nalbari, Deuka Publication expressed their satisfaction over the readers response to the fair. Different literary competitions among the students and a career counselling session by Srimanta Goswami was also organized by the organisers during the programmes. The closing ceremony was held on Thursday where professor Nazrul Islam presided over and litterateur and senior journalist Dilip Kumar Sarma and Dr. Rumi Nath attended the function as guests. Journalist Nilamoni Sarma anchored the programme.
On the final day, a cultural program was also organised, which was opened by renowned Goalparia Lokgeet vocalist Rahima Kalita Begum. Krishnakam Bordoloi, the officer in charge of the Krishnai police station, kindled the event's fire.
The fair titled ‘Krishnai Book Fair 2024’ was organized by the Xurovi Xahitya Gosthi, a local organization representing progressive citizens including several senior journalists.
