SIVASAGAR: The All Sivasagar District Students’ Union presented the Xahityarathi Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbarua Award to Dr. Kuladhar Saikia, recipient of the Xahitya Akademi Award, former president of the Axom Xahitya Xabha, and former director general of police, Assam.
The award ceremony was held at Kali Prasad Memorial Hall in Sivasagar town recently. The event saw the presence of several notable dignitaries, including Utpal Sharma, President of the All Assam Students’ Union; Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College and President of Sibsagar Press Club; former AASU leader Sarat Hazarika; Executive Member of the All Assam Students’ Union Samiran Phukan; President of the All Sivasagar District Students’ Union Manas Hazarika; members of the Lakshminath Bezbarua family; and AASU officials, among others.
Upon receiving the Xahityarathi Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbarua Award, Dr. Kuladhar Saikia expressed his gratitude to the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). He remarked, “No generation can forget the contributions of Lakshminath Bezbarua to Assamese language and literature.”
Dr. Saikia highlighted the recent recognition of Assamese as a classical language and attributed it to the foundational works of literary figures like Bezbarua. He stated, “The recognition of Assamese as a classical language, alongside the literary works on the origin and evolution of the Assamese language by these stalwarts, has brought us to this esteemed level and also allowed me to receive this honour.”
He further said, “I believe that this is a golden opportunity for the new generation, who may not have studied Lakshminath Bezbarua in depth, to understand his contributions to Assamese language and literature.”
Earlier, Samiran Phukan, Executive Member of the AASU, delivered the welcome address, while the entire event was anchored by Dipankar Saikia, Secretary of the All Sivasagar District Students’ Union.
