Assam: Lai Khuta of Golaghat Book Fair erected

GOLAGHAT : The Lai Khuta of ‘Golaghat Book Fair and Literary Festival-2023’ was installed on Thursday at Samannayshetra amidst a huge public gathering.

Golaghat Book Fair and Literary Festival-2023 will be held from November 29 to December 6 with the support of All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association, Golaghat district administration, various groups and organizations and people under the initiative of Pachim Golaghat Xakha Xahitya Xabha.

MLA of Khumtai constituency Mrinal Saikia erected the Lai Khuta with gayan-bayan, Ayati’s Uruli, Kirtan Path, Chir Senehi songs. Damodar Barman, Additional Commissioner of Golaghat district was the chief guest on the occasion.

Erecting the Lai Khuta, MLA Mrinal Saikia said that this time it is a good news that the Golaghat Book Fair is involving people from all walks of life and is being organized in an exceptional way. He advocated for preserving the book fair's unique identity instead of emphasising commercial promotion. Former president of Golaghat Zila Xahitya Xabha Pavitra Barbara, eminent writer Dr. Ajit Baruah among others were the guests of honour.

On the inauguration ceremony of Golaghat Book Fair on November 29, five thousand students of the educational institution will perform the song ‘Puhar Bisari Jao’ sung by Paragdhar Chaliha. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has been invited to inaugurate the Golaghat Book Fair and Literature Festival. The book fair will not have commercial outlets like clothes, manihari etc. this time. Various competitions, seminars, literary events, special felicitations, literature chats, exhibitions etc. have been arranged.

Special arrangements have also been made for the exhibition of the Braille edition, which created the world record of Hemkosh of Jayanta Barua, the editor of Assamese Pratidin and the owner of the Pratidin group. Similarly the bio-refinery model of Numaligarh refinery can be studied by the students in the book fair.

Book publishers from Assam as well as from Kolkata, Delhi and Haryana have confirmed their participation in the Golaghat Book Fair. The Pachim Golaghat Xakha Xahitya Xabha, an organiser, has sought the presence and co-operation of the people of Assam.
