
GUWAHATI: The Army Institute of Nursing (AIN) in Guwahati hosted a Lamp Lighting Ceremony for the 2024 batch, Graduation Ceremony for the 2019 batch, and Annual Day celebrations on December 19, 2024, at Brahmaputra Hall, Narangi Cantonment.
The event was attended by Major General RD Sharma, GOC 51 Sub Area and Chairman of AIN Guwahati, who served as the Chief Guest. Dr. (Prof) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony was attended by several key officials, including Brigadier Chetan Sood, Commandant of 151 Base Hospital and Director of AIN Guwahati, along with other administrative officers from HQ 51 Sub Area and 151 Base Hospital.
Since its inception in 2006, AIN has emerged as a leading institution for professional nursing education, catering especially to the female wards of Army personnel and civilians from the North East.
Recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (New Delhi) and the Assam Nursing Council, the institute is affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences in Assam. AIN offers a four-year B.Sc. Nursing program and a two-year M.Sc. Nursing program. Currently, the institute accommodates 254 nursing students across both programs.
In her annual report, Mrs. Kabita Baishya, Offg Principal of AIN, highlighted the institution's achievement of 100% placement for its graduates in top hospitals across New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Guwahati, reflecting AIN's commitment to quality education and training.
The Lamp Lighting Ceremony marked the formal induction of the fresher’s batch into the nursing profession, with Col Sujata, Principal Matron of 151 Base Hospital, administering the Nurses' Pledge.
During the Graduation Ceremony, awards were presented to top students: Ms. Varsha Rani received the COAS All-Round Best Student award and a Silver Medal, Ms. Sumu Saikia earned the GOC 101 Rolling Trophy for Best Student in the Clinical Field, Ms. Arti Kumari was awarded the Gold Medal for first position, and Ms. Tanushree Singha received the Bronze Medal for third place.
Maj Gen RD Sharma, Chief Guest and Chairman of AIN, emphasized the critical role of nurses in healthcare and congratulated the graduates and newly inducted nurses. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, marking a memorable day for AIN.
