Assam: Large Fire Breaks Out At Jagiroad, 9 Buildings Gutted

GUWAHATI:  A large fire reportedly broke out on Wednesday in Jagiroad, which is part of Assam's Morigaon district. In that conflagration, as many as nine commercial buildings were completely destroyed.

In addition, the fire was blamed for at least three recorded cylinder explosions. Fire trucks arrived on the scene soon after the fire broke out. Locals were informed that a total of six fire engines struggled for a long time to put out the flames. Officials on the scene have since reported that it is still unclear what caused the fire.

According to sources, this year's Diwali celebrations in Assam saw fewer fire accidents than in years past. During Diwali, the state registered a total of 28 fire incidents, but Kamrup Metro (M) only recorded four.

Four fire incidents were reported in Kamrup (M) on October 24 and 25, although none of them were caused by cracker explosions. A total of 24 fire occurrences were reported in other districts, of which four were caused by cracker explosions.

In a recent statement, Assam's Special Director General of Police/Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Mukesh Agarwal, stated: "This year, there have been a very low number of reported fire incidents throughout the state. The fact that it rained during the celebration worked in our favor. Due to the weather this year, many people did not let off firecrackers. Four reports of fire were made to us in Kamrup (M), however those fires were not started by the popping of crackers. Despite the fact that the state has over 400 fire stations, only a small number of fire calls were made this year due to the rain, which is a blessing."

A total of 83 fire incidents were reported during the Diwali festival in Assam in 2021, of which 28 were caused by the explosion of crackers.

A total of 51 fire accidents were reported during Diwali in Assam in 2020, of which 19 were brought on by the explosion of firecrackers.
