KHERONI: Last night, Dr Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), conducted a thorough review of preparations for the upcoming 2nd Karbi Aron Barim Chingrum Amei, a significant gathering of indigenous faith practitioners of the Karbi community. The event is set to take place at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, Diphu, with meticulous arrangements for the pandal and other essentials underway to ensure a grand celebration.
The highlight of the event will be a two-day visit by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who will participate in a series of engagements aimed at fostering development and cultural preservation in Karbi Anglong. On April 17, the Chief Minister will hold a crucial meeting with representatives of six former armed groups that have signed Memoranda of Settlement (MoS), alongside discussions with Karbi organizations from Assam’s plains districts. Additionally, he will inaugurate Public Works Department (PWD) road projects worth Rs 100 crore, a significant step toward improving infrastructure in the region.
On the second day, April 18, Dr Sarma will grace the 2nd Karbi Aron Barim Chingrum Amei congregation as the chief guest, where nearly 2 lakh people from Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and other regions, including Dima Hasao and Sonitpur, are expected to participate. The event will commence with a traditional ritual invoking deities, followed by the singing of the Karbi indigenous faith anthem. The Chief Minister will address the gathering in the afternoon, emphasizing the importance of preserving Karbi cultural heritage.
Local organizations from Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong will also meet the Chief Minister to discuss community concerns and aspirations. Furthermore, a meeting with all department heads of KAAC is scheduled to review ongoing initiatives and outline future action plans for the council’s development agenda.
The visit and the cultural congregation underscore the Assam Government’s commitment to the socio-economic and cultural upliftment of Karbi Anglong, with the Chief Minister’s engagements expected to pave the way for enhanced development and peace in the region.
