GUWAHATI: In the continued mission to curb corruption and bring officials accepting bribes to justice, sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DirVAC) arrested a Lat Mandal in Jorhat district of Assam on Friday night for indulging in corrupt practices.

On receipt of a complaint, the sleuths swung into action and trapped and caught red-handed the arrested official, identified as Abdul Baki Sheikh, Lat Mandal of Jorhat Revenue Circle, at his residence while accepting the bribe money from the complainant.

Police sources revealed that Lat Mandal Sheikh had demanded the money from the complainant as bribe for processing some land related documents.

Taking to Twitter, ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh wrote, "Today, a Team from the @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed at his home & arrested Md Abdul Baki Seikh, Lat Mandal, Jorhat Revenue Circle, Jorhat district after he accepted bribe money from the complainant for processing Land related documents. @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam".

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption or in short DirVac Assam has employed sleuths in all corners of the state of Assam to keep a strict vigil on the working of government offices so that people should not go through any trouble. DirVac Assam has been successful in its mission against bribery in government offices as it has arrested more than 40 Lat Mandals this year until now.

On September 28, Additional Patwari Utpal Kumar Nath employed at the Office of Settlement Officer of Hailakandi and Cachar district was caught red-handed and arrested by the vigilance team while accepting demanded money for the land certification work of a complainant.

Vigilance and anti corruption (VAC) sleuths on Sep 23 laid yet another trap at the Nagaon Sadar Circle Office to nab a Lat Mandal while accepting a bribe.

Identified as Ranjit Mahanta, the accused demanded bribe money from a person for processing a land mutation file.
