Assam: Liquor Smuggling Racket Busted by Tezpur Police, Huge Consignment Recovered

It was found that the truck was transporting 700 cartons of premium Arunachali whisky, which had a market value of over Rs. 25 lakhs.

TEZPUR: Tezpur police effectively foiled a large shipment of Arunachali whisky close to the Koliabhomora Bridge in a major operation against the illegal liquor trade.

Based on reliable information, a police unit positioned themselves in a strategic location close to the bridge and stopped a suspicious truck. After a careful examination, it was discovered that the heavy-load vehicle was transporting 700 cartons of premium Arunachali whisky, which had a market value of worth more than Rs. 25 lakhs.

Police have taken the truck driver into jail after apprehending him. In order to dismantle the entire smuggling network, authorities are currently investigating the issue more thoroughly. The origin of the liquor and its intended destination are currently being investigated.

Recently, Assam Rifles thwarted an illegal liquor smuggling operation in Chandel District. Two Bolero cars on their way from Moreh to Ukhrul were pulled over at a checkpoint at SL Zougam in the Chandel District.

2880 bottles of fermented alcoholic beverages (apple, grape, and honey lemon tastes) made in Myanmar were found after a thorough inspection of the cars. All the liquor bottles were kept in 120 cartoons.

The alcohol that was confiscated had been estimated at Rs. 1.73 lakhs. The two vehicles were turned over to Machi Police for further investigation, along with the smuggled products and two individuals.
