Haflong: Dima Hasao Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) organized a live telecast program of the first episode of Krishi Choupal at N.Leikul Village in Dima Hasao on Saturday.
Krishi Choupal is a newly launched audio-visual program by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The main objective of the program is to disseminate new agricultural research and technology to farmers, promote best agricultural practices, and facilitate direct communication. The Krishi Choupal program will be telecast on the first or second Saturday of every month from 2 pm to 3 pm on DD Kisan. Each episode will feature innovative technology in agriculture that will be disseminated through interaction with renowned agriculture scientists.
Today’s program started with a welcome speech and brief introduction about the program by Mrs. Rashmita Saikia, Senior Scientist and Head (i/c), KVK Dima Hasao. Today’s episode focused on the newly released 109 varieties of field crops and horticulture crops by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
The scientist explained the newly released varieties of wheat and mustard in the beginning; later, newly released mango varieties like Pusa Arunima, Ambika, and Arka Uday were discussed. Then potato varieties with their distinct features were discussed, e.g., Kufri Chips Sona 5, which has more dry matter and less sugar content and is resistant to late blight. The scientist also discussed the tomato varieties released, like Pusa Shakti, which tolerate high temperatures and can be planted even in May–October. The new varieties of rice were also discussed. Out of the nine newly released rice varieties, CR Dhan 810 is suitable for Assam conditions.
Apart from the discussion on newly released varieties, the scientist in the program explained the importance of seed treatment, proper plant spacing, etc. The Goan Bura of N. Leikul L.J. Singson requested the farmers to utilize the knowledge gathered from the Krishi Choupal episode to increase their farm production and productivity.
