Assam Madhyamik Sikshak Santha to Host 52nd Biennial Conference, State Awards for Scholars

SIVASAGAR: The Assam Madhyamik Sikshak aru Karmachari Santha, with its rich legacy of 100 years, is set to host its 52nd Biennial Conference in collaboration with the districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo. The event is scheduled to take place on March 20, 21, and 22, with the Reception Committee making full preparations for the grand occasion.

In a press statement, Vice-President Hemanta Saikia and General Secretary Gobinda Chandra Kalita informed that the conference would be led by the Reception Committee, chaired by social worker Mayur Borgohain, with Prashanta Dutta, Abdul Jabbar, and Jayanta Chutia as Executive Presidents, and Rajen Mili as the General Secretary. The association leaders remarked that the conference would mark the beginning of a new era for the organization.

Established in 1925 during the pre-independence period, the Assam Madhyamik Sikshak Aru Karmachari Santha has consistently collaborated with the State Government while upholding integrity and courage in shaping national education. Over time, it has transformed into a national-level educational organization, bringing new policies to advance secondary education.

As part of its centenary celebrations, the association has decided to honour two distinguished personalities with state-level awards for their significant contributions to Assam’s education and literature:

Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta, an eminent educationist, literary scholar and intellectual, will be awarded the Anandaram Barooah Academic Award.

Jugesh Kishor Phukan, a revered writer, linguist and educator, will receive the Dr Banikanta Kakati Award.

The awards are set to be presented on March 21, during the inaugural session of the conference, by Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu. The award ceremony will include a memento, xorai, ceremonial scarf, gamocha, japi, and a collection of books.

The open session of the conference is set to be chaired by the association’s President Mokibur Rahman with Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief guest. Additionally, Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and Professor Dr Chandan Sharma of Dibrugarh University will be featured as keynote speakers. The event will also witness the presence of Cabinet Ministers Jogen Mohan and Bimal Bora, along with Mamata Hojai, Director of Secondary Education.

The official inauguration of the conference will be conducted by Ramesh Chand Jain, Chairman of the Assam Board of Secondary Education (SEBA), while the welcome address will be delivered by Reception Committee President Mayur Borgohain.
