Majuli: Joining the Nation’s patriotic fervour and celebration, on the auspicious occasion of our country’s 79th Independence Day on 15th of August, with the theme ‘Viksit Bharat,' which aligns with the government's vision of transforming India into a Developed Nation by 2047, the 100th year of Independence are the famed mask makers of Assam’s very own island Majuli.
The artists of the Sangeet Kala Kendra of the Samagiri Satra crafted masks in the national tricolour, extending Independence Day fervour from Majuli to India. They clad themselves in the traditional attire used in Mukha Bhaona performances and donned self-made masks, and celebrated by the Brahmaputra River.
Anupam Goswami, an artist from the group commented, "On behalf of Samaguri Satra, we extend our greetings to the people of the nation on the 78th Independence Day. On this auspicious day, we remember all the martyrs who laid down their lives for our motherland. We are celebrating the spirit of Independence through our masks.”
