Assam: Man Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Minor Girl In Golaghat

The incident occurred when the minor girl went into the forest to get firewood and this heinous crime took place at Salmara Bagicha village in Golaghat.

Golaghat: The Assam Police arrested a person in the Golaghat district of Assam on June 10 after he was accused of allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl. The accused have been identified as Sabon and Nunu.

The incident occurred when the minor girl went into the forest to get firewood and she came across the harassers there. This heinous crime took place at Salmara Bagicha village which falls under Golaghat district.

The police took action on the basis of the complaint that the victim of the family lodged after the incident unfolded.

According to reports, the other accused, Nunu, is absconding and is on the run but the police have assured that he will be nabbed soon, after which he will be put behind bars.

During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the two accused had threatened the victim for not disclosing the incident. As per reports, they allegedly held a machete over her head to intimidate her.

An official has said that the victim was afraid to reveal the incident to her family. However, after two days, the family stepped in and registered a complaint regarding the incident.

The official has informed that further investigation to look into the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, a woman had lodged an FIR in Demow Police Station last month, that when her husband was not at home, one Karan Mirdha, an inhabitant of Rajmai Tea Estate, allegedly tortured and raped her.

In the FIR, the victim also stated that two Police Officers of Demow Police Station were harassing her by calling her to the police station again and again. The victim submitted a copy of the FIR to the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district, Superintendent of Police of Sivasagar district and Demow Circle Officer on June 1.
