Assam: Man kills wife and her illicit lover in Nagaon district

NAGAON: A shocking incident of double murder took place at the Pachanijar area near Kampur in Nagaon district last night, over an extramarital affair, in which a husband allegedly killed his wife, and her illicit lover, a TET teacher, in a brutal attack with a rod.

According to reports, Jaykanta Das, the accused husband who works at a company in Guwahati, suddenly discovered his wife Gitarani Das and her lover Bhaskar Nath, a TET teacher, in a compromising position at their rented accommodation in Kampur’s Pachanijar area on Tuesday night. In a fit of rage, Jaykanta Das attacked and killed both his wife and her lover. He later surrendered to the police at Kampur Police Station.

On being informed, the senior police officials from the district headquarters, rushed to Kampur Police Station and launched a thorough investigation into the incident and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Besides, the accused husband, Jaykanta Das, was produced before a local court at Nagaon and the court sent him to judicial custody on Wednesday afternoon.

 Jaykanta Das hails from Debnarikoli and his victim wife from Tulsimukh Deorigaon village while the victim TET teacher is from Mangaldai in Darang district.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation, with locals describing it as a shameful act that has brought disrepute to the community. A large number of people gathered at the scene, condemning the incident and calling for greater awareness to prevent such incidents in the future. The community has urged the youth to come forward and work towards preventing such acts through various awareness programmes.
