GUWAHATI: In a disturbing occurrence, a person was allegedly held captive for about an hour inside a hotel restroom in Guwahati's Rukmini Gaon. Jogen Bonia of Tezpur has been named as the victim. According to rumours, Bonia spent roughly an hour on Friday night imprisoned inside the bathroom of the Hotel Autumn Crocus in Rukmini Gaon.

Bonia claims that after he entered the bathroom, the door unintentionally locked from the outside. He attempted to smash down the door after realising he was confined to the restroom but was unsuccessful.

The ventilator was then attempted to be reached by Bonia as he screamed for rescue. While attempting to open the ventilator in search of a way out, he suffered minor wounds. The hotel staff finally reached his room and saved him after about 50 minutes of shouting.

Bonia has filed an FIR with the police department on the event and has also accused the hotel staff of being careless with guests. He had travelled to Guwahati to meet his daughter, who was visiting the city to continue her studies.

According to sources, After a 34-year-old perished in a fire accident at Malakpet Chanderghat SHO, police filed a complaint against the owners of the Sohail hotel. According to Y Prakash Reddy, the hotel owners have been charged with crimes under Sections 304A and 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The death caused by negligence is covered under Section 304A. According to the law, anyone who causes the death of another person by engaging in any reckless or careless behaviour that does not constitute culpable murder shall be penalized with imprisonment of either description for a time that may not exceed two years, a fine, or both.
