Assam: Man Poisons His Two Kids Before Killing Himself

Nalbari: A man allegedly made his two children drink poison before consuming it himself in Assam's Nalbari district.

As per reports, the man identified as Dipul Saikia took the extreme step and died as his wife had eloped with another man.

Presently, the two children have been admitted to a nearby hospital in critical condition and police have reached the spot to assess the situation.

Further investigation is underway into the matter.

Notably, in a similar incident, on August 4, a man also committed suicide by consuming poison in the state's Sivasagar district. He also made his two children drink poison.

He was identified as Mridul Handique and was a resident of the Bogidole area on the outskirts of Sivsagar town.

Upon receiving the information about the incident, neighbours immediately took them to a hospital. However, Handique's 6-year-old son Pintu Handique has been declared brought dead by the doctors along with his father.

''Handique's other son aged 10 years was in critical condition, and undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh. Doctors are hopeful that he will survive,'' IANS quoted Sivsagar district Superintendent of Police, Subhrajyoti Borah as saying.

As per initial reports, it came to the fore that the man had some domestic issues with his wife following which he took extreme steps.

Reports also claimed that the wife and daughters were living separately for the last few months which prompted police to think a family conflict may have led to this unfortunate incident.

Later, the bodies of both father and son were sent for post-mortem.
