GUWAHATI: A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to jail for 20 years by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court for committing the sensational crime of raping his own sister many times.

According to reports, the victim girl got pregnant after the accused youth raped her repeatedly. The incident took place in the year 2019 at Jagiroad which is in the Marigaon district of Assam.

In the same year, an FIR was filed at Jagiroad Police Station against PS case no 473/2019 under IPC section 376 (2) (3), POCSO act's R/W section 9 and section 6.

The Special Judge of Marigaon district along with the Additional Sessions Judge has announced the judgment of 20 years rigorous imprisonment for the accused on the basis of the complaint lodged in 2019.

On Monday 21 February the court had informed about its decision of providing 20 years continuous imprisonment to the youth as his punishment for the heinous crime.

Earlier in a similar incident on 11 February, a POCSO court in Arunachal Pradesh's West Kameng district has sent a 35-year-old Assam man for 20 years of imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter several times.

A fine of Rupees 5,000 was also imposed on the accused identified as Bhawani Chetry, a resident of Biswanath district in Assam.

He was also sentenced to 1-year simple imprisonment under IPC section 506 and a fine of Rupees 2,000 was also slapped on Chetry in addition.

Reportedly the person raped the young girl 3 times between March 2020 and April 2021 in Kelengteng village located near Sangetsar Lake in Tawang.

He had allegedly threatened the victim not to speak about all these with her mother but the girl shared the incident with her friends who later informed authorities. Chetry was detained by police in April 2021 as per the complaint by the survivor.
