NAGAON: In a bizarre incident, a man spiked the food served to his relatives causing them to be hospitalised. The incident took place in the Nagaon district of Assam.

According to local reports, one Riyazuddin spiked a snack served to his relatives, including young children. The incident took place in the Rupohighat locality of Assam’s Nagaon district on Friday. As a result, the people who consumed the snack were intoxicated and had blurred vision. They also had nausea and vomiting along with dizziness.

The victims were shifted to the Nagaon Medical College Hospital for immediate medical attention. Following the incident, one of the victims lodged a complaint against Riyazuddin with the local police, who are now looking into the incident.

Previously in an unexpected development, a large number of people fell ill after consuming the prasad offered during such an event in Assam. The incident took place in the Mariani region of the state. A large number of people consumed the grams and lentils offered as prasad during an event in the Nakachari village of Jorhat at the residence of one Pranab Gogoi on Saturday. Over 150 people including children and women fall ill after consuming the same.

The people from the nearby villages also participated in the event and consumed the same prasad, leading to an increase in the number of victims. Some of the victims were shifted to the Nakachari Model Hospital while those in worse conditions were shifted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for better medical care. Earlier this year, more than 50 children at a temporary shelter home in Nagaon district suddenly fell ill for unknown reasons, an official said. The incident took place in the Doboka area. As per the district authorities, the kids who reside in the shelter house suddenly became ill. Among individuals who reported being ill, nausea, diarrhoea, headaches, and vomiting were common symptoms.
