KOKRAJHAR: A man from Dhekiajuli, Assam, was recently summoned to court for reacting with a 'Haha' emoji to a Facebook comment. Amit Chakraborty faced legal action after he reacted to a post by former Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, an IAS officer.

A Facebook user, Naresh Barua's comment on the officer's post, saying, "No makeup today, ma'am?" led to the controversy. Chakraborty had responded with a laughing emoji, which led to a case being filed against him.

Chakraborty traveled to Kokrajhar to seek bail and revealed that he was unaware of the officer’s identity. He expressed confusion over the case, saying he didn’t understand why something so small led to legal trouble.

Chakraborty has been granted bail. However, the incident raised concerns about freedom of expression on social media.

Meanwhile, Kokrajhar is gearing up for a historic Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA), set to be held at BTCLA on February 17. This will be the first time the session takes place outside the state capital, making it a significant event for the region.

To ensure smooth conduct of the session, a detailed review of the arrangements was conducted by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota. During the meeting, Kota emphasized the importance of meticulous planning and coordination among various departments.

BTC Principal Secretary Akash Deep was tasked with finalizing logistical preparations, including seating, catering, power and water supply, medical facilities, fire safety, and traffic management.

Key officials from Kokrajhar, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, joined the review. Following the meeting, Kota and other officials inspected the session hall and other crucial locations to ensure all arrangements are in place for a successful session in Kokrajhar.
