MARGHERITA: Tensions have erupted in Assam’s Margherita as residents of Hawai Pathar, Tinihuti, and Maulang took to the streets, demanding the immediate removal of their Gaon Pradhan, Chowphan Tikhak. The protests, which began on Friday, are fueled by accusations of rude behavior and offensive language, leaving the community frustrated and fed up with their leader’s actions.

The discontent is palpable as villagers accuse Tikhak of consistently dismissing their concerns with disrespect. Determined to hold him accountable, the residents have formally appealed to the Margherita Co-District Commissioner, seeking swift intervention.

By Saturday, the protests swelled in size and intensity, with angry crowds gathering at North Margherita Rangamancha. Chants filled the air as the community rallied to demand a change in leadership, signaling they would no longer tolerate disrespectful governance.

This wave of dissent has cast a spotlight on the growing frustration with local administration in the region. The unified call for accountability and respect underscores the residents’ resolve to ensure their voices are not ignored. The unfolding drama not only highlights their dissatisfaction but also sets the stage for potential shifts in the area’s leadership dynamics.

Menwhile, a devastating fire swept through the local market of Margherita, Assam, early on Saturday morning, December 21, leaving 20 to 25 shops in ruins. The fire, which broke out at around 1 a.m., caused significant damage, with estimates placing the property loss at around Rs 1.50 crore.

Suspicion has grown among local residents, who believe the blaze may have been set deliberately, raising concerns of arson. Firefighters responded quickly to the scene and were able to contain the flames, but efforts to fully extinguish the remaining embers are still ongoing.

Authorities have announced plans for a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and address the allegations of foul play. The community remains shaken as the aftermath continues to unfold.
