MARGHERITA: A massive fire broke out in the local market of Margherita, Assam, in the early hours of Saturday, December 21, destroying nearly 20-25 shops. The blaze, which started at around 1 a.m., caused extensive property damage estimated at Rs 1.50 crore.

Local residents suspect foul play, alleging that the fire may have been an act of arson. Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene and managed to contain the blaze, but efforts to completely extinguish the smoldering remains are still underway.

Authorities are set to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, a devastating fire broke out at Fakiragram market in Assam, engulfing the shop of a local businessman. The fire caused extensive damage, completely destroying a shop owned by Badal Saha and resulting in financial losses estimated in lakhs of rupees.

The timely arrival of the fire brigade prevented the blaze from spreading further. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control, preventing a potentially larger catastrophe. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway.

Likewise, a devastating fire that took place at Shaniboriya commercial center, Balijuri in the northern part of Jamugurihat engulfed the business establishments in the wee hours on Monday and caused a great deal of damage to the business establishments.

According to information, the fire started from an electric short circuit and within a few moments expanded to the adjoining business establishments. Nearly nine gas cylinders, which were inside the business shops, exploded as they came into contact with the fire, leading to more expansion of the fire.
