PATHSALA: A massive protest march took place in Sarupeta, Bajali district, following the shocking rape and murder of a girl allegedly by her ex-lover Arif Ahmed. The incident, which occurred on July 19, sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice across the region.
Hundreds of local residents joined the protest procession, which began at the Sarupeta Milan Mandir and moved through the town. Demonstrators called for the death penalty for the accused and demanded swift justice. The protesters also blocked the Bhawanipur-Manas connecting road, bringing traffic to a standstill for hours.
According to police reports, Arif Ahmed allegedly murdered the victim and left her body hanging from a ceiling fan inside his house in Sarupeta. It has been revealed that the victim’s family had been living near Arif’s residence for the past 15 years.
Bajali police arrested Arif Ahmed in connection with the case. He is currently in custody, and legal proceedings are underway. The case has been presented before the Fast-Track Court, with hundreds of protestors voicing strong demands for capital punishment.
The incident has deeply shaken the community, with local leaders and women’s organizations joining hands to ensure that justice is served. Meanwhile, the authorities promised a thorough investigation and strict action against the accused.
