Assam: Mentally Challenged Man Fatally Stabbed In Cachar District

GUWAHATI : A horrific incident took place in Assam's Cachar district on Sunday, when a mentally challenged boy was allegedly stabbed to death after an argument.

The incident took place in Rukni Tea Estate and the deceased has been identified as Nirmal Nath. The heinous act was committed by Biswajit Kalindi, son of Vijay Kalindi, a resident of Rukni Tea estate.

According to sources, Nirmal Nath was mentally challenged. On 4th December, when he approached a tea stall owned by Biswajit, he was asked to leave immediately by the owner. Both Biswajit and Nath got into a fight after which Biswajit fatally stabbed Nath from behind. The locals noticed Nath's body and informed the police and Biswajit's father about the incident.

When the police arrived at the location, the body was lying in front of Biswajit's tea shop. Nirmal Nath's body was recovered and sent for post-mortem to the Silchar Medical College. The police took the action in presence of magistrate, Dipankar Nath.

Meanwhile, Biswajit Kalindi was arrested and taken to the Dhalai police station. Biswajit's father told the police that the act was a result of his son's mental illness. However, the cops refused to accept it. Biswajit's father further said that the deceased had passed some nasty comments about his mother after which he could not control his anger and stabbed Nirmal.

This year, another such incident took place in Silchar where a 22 year old boy was stabbed to death in the middle of the road. The deceased was identified as Bibek Dey, a resident of Malugram. As per eye witnesses, Dey was stopped and attacked with a knife while riding a motorcycle. Bibek Dey was rushed to SMCH by the locals, but was declared dead by the doctors.

After the investigation process, it came to light that the accused and deceased were not unknown to each other. The accused was identified as Gaihai Kemei.
