SILCHAR: The Town Club Playground in Silchar became a lively cultural attraction as Jayanta Mallabaruah, the Guardian Minister of Cachar and Minister for PHE, Housing & Urban Affairs, attended the Zonal Jhumoir Dance Training Camp.
Koushik Rai, Minister for Food Public Distribution, Mines & Minerals, and Barak Valley Development, along with local leaders including Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, and Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatto were also present.
The training camp saw dancers from Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi districts coming together to practice and refine their skills for the upcoming ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ program, which will be held later this month at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The camp not only focused on improving the performance but also celebrated the cultural importance of Jhumoir dance, a traditional art form of Assam.
In his address to the media, Mallabaruah praised the young dancers for their passion and commitment to preserving Assam’s traditions. He expressed confidence that their performance in Guwahati would be memorable and emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to support and preserve cultural practices.
The much-anticipated Mega Jhumoir Dance event is set for February 24th at Sarusajai Stadium, where dancers and instrumentalists from Cachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi will come together. A total of 180 participants from Cachar, 64 from Sribhumi, and 102 from Hailakandi will perform, making this grand celebration a spectacular display of Assam’s rhythm, tradition, and unity.
