Assam: Minister Kesab Mahanta Launches 5 Water Supply Schemes at Kaliabor

GUWAHATI: Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Kesab Mahanta under Prime Minister's Jal Jeevan Mission scheme today launched 5 water supply schemes in Kaliabor, Nagaon district along with panchayat representatives and Executive Committee members of the Water Supply Scheme. 

Tweeting on his social media, Minister stated that Assam Government aims to provide water supply to every household in the rural areas in Assam by 2024 under these schemes.

The schemes launched today are Hatimura Water Supply Scheme, Sonarigaon Water Supply Scheme, Sarubhagiya Water Supply Scheme, Hatibandha Water Supply Scheme and Borghuli Nadipar Water Supply Scheme, which will benefit to 500 people living in rural areas.

The ongoing National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) has been restructured and subsumed into the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household, i.e. Har Ghar Jal, by 2024. The Jal Jeevan Mission seeks to offer every rural household a functional house connection and a minimum water supply service standard of 55 LPCD.

Some of the goals of Jal Jeevan include

To give FHTCs to every rural home; to prioritize FHTC provision in quality-affected areas, villages in drought-prone and desert areas, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) villages, and so on;

To provide a functioning tap connection to schools, Anganwadi Centres, GP buildings, health Centres, wellness Centres, and community buildings; to monitor tap connection functionality;

To encourage and ensure voluntary ownership among the local community by monetary, in-kind, and/or labour contributions (shramdaan);

To help ensure the long-term viability of the water supply system, including the water source, water supply infrastructure, and funds for regular O&M; to empower and develop human resources in the sector so that construction, plumbing, electrical, water quality management, water treatment, catchment protection, O&M, and other demands are met in the short and long term; and to empower and develop human resource in the sector so that the demands of construction, plumbing, electrical, water quality management, water treatment, catchment protection, O&M,

To raise awareness among the people regarding the numerous facts and importance of being safe.
