Assam: Minister Pijush Hazarika distributes financial aid in Tezpur and Jagiroad

TEZPUR: Minister for Water Resources, Information & Public Relations, and Guardian Minister of Sonitpur District Pijush Hazarika today inaugurated the financial aid distribution programme for naamghars and other religious places under the ‘Axom Darshan Scheme’ in Tezpur and Jagiroad. The event was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tezpur and at a special ceremony in Jagiroad.

Speaking on the occasion in Tezpur, Minister Hazarika emphasized that naamghars and religious places are the heart of Assam’s spiritual and cultural heritage. He highlighted that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state government has undertaken several historic initiatives for their development and preservation.

During the event, the minister distributed financial assistance to 158 naamghars and religious institutions in Tezpur Assembly Constituency. Under the 2024-25 financial year, a total grant of Rs 3 lakh per institution has been allocated, with the first instalment of Rs 1.5 lakh being disbursed today. Notably, a total of 792 namghars and places of worship in Sonitpur District are set to receive this financial aid.

Later in the day, Minister Hazarika inaugurated a similar aid distribution ceremony in Jagiroad, held at the Multipurpose Auditorium. A total of 181 namghars and religious sites in the constituency received financial grants. Addressing the gathering, the minister reiterated that the naamghars, founded by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, are a symbol of Assam’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy. He emphasized the collective responsibility to preserve and maintain these revered institutions and assured the government’s continued commitment to their development and sustenance.

Furthermore, Minister Hazarika stated that the Assam Government, under Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, has been actively supporting Assam’s cultural and religious traditions, including Bohag Bihu, Sri Krishna Raas Leela, and Durga Puja, among others. He also reiterated the government’s focus on women’s empowerment, providing merit-based government jobs for educated unemployed youth, and ensuring the welfare of every citizen.
