GUWAHATI: Sanjoy Kisan, a Tinsukia BJP MLA, has resigned from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's cabinet ahead of Saturday's reshuffle. In the Assam government, Kisan was in charge of the departments of Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare.
It should be noted that the Assam CM formally said on Wednesday night that a minor cabinet enlargement would occur on Saturday, December 7, at midday. As per reports, the cabinet reshuffle on Saturday will see the swearing-in of three new ministers.
Previously, CM Sarma had announced a modest cabinet re-organisation that would take place on December 7 at midday. Sarma assured reporters that the reshuffle would only include minor adjustments, either adding or removing one to three ministers. He said, "Discussions with Shah and Nadda will shape the final list. I’ll announce it tomorrow or the day after."
Although the details are still being kept secret, the Chief Minister promised that the finalised list would be made public following his high-level talks, which are anticipated to take place on December 5 or 6. The re-organisation is a component of continuous attempts to optimise the state government in advance of significant political events.
It has also been indicated that in response to mounting calls to improve regional representation and lessen the workload of ministers with various responsibilities, the Assam government is preparing to expand its cabinet. Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, the political landscape in Assam has taken on new dimensions as a result of the recent by-election results.
