DIPHU: A pall of gloom descended in the area when the body of the youth who had earlier gone missing at Longso Kangthu Eco-Tourism Park was recovered floating in Siloni River of Karbi Anglong in Assam on the morning of Monday (July 17).

The dead body of the missing young man, identified as Abhinash Roy, was found floating in the river's danger zone by Forest department officials engaged in the administration of the nature park.

The forest officials spotted the corpse and informed the Manja Police Station about the discovery of Roy’s body. The body was recovered later.

Abhinash Roy is learnt to be a resident of Diphu's ASEB colony. He had visited the Longso Kangthu eco-tourism park with several friends on Sunday (July 16). They were taking a bath in the river when he, unfortunately for him, got swept into the river's danger zone, according to his companions.

It should be mentioned here that Abhinash was employed at a private business establishment in Diphu and he had accompanied his friends to the nature park on a holiday outing, which proved fatal for him.

In a similar incident, an unidentified dead body of a man was found floating in the Baralia River under mysterious circumstances in the Bongaon area of Rangia in Assam, according to reports that emerged on Sunday.

Local residents of the area spotted the floating dead body while coming back from morning walk and reported the incident to the local police.

The police promptly responded to the information and rushed to the spot. They later recovered the body with the help of the locals.

The police suspect that the body has been carried by the water to the spot in the Baralia River from a distant location.

The police are trying to establish the identity of the body and an investigation was launched.

Another incident of a similar nature emerged on July 15, when the body of a woman was discovered in the Difloo River at Kaibarta Gaon in Assam’s Bokakhat.

The body was reported to belong to the deceased woman identified as Malati Ghatwal, who had been reported missing since July 13. The body of Malati, floating in the river, got caught on the hook of a fishing rod that had been set up for fish, when the locals spotted it.
