Assam MLA Sherman Ali Rearrested For Allegedly Embezzle MLA Fund

After he was produced before the court, the CM vigilance cell has sought 5-day custody of Sherman Ali.

Guwahati: The Chief Minister Vigilance Cell on Friday has re arrested the Congress MLA from Assam, Sherman Ali.

This time he however arrested for the allegedly embezzle MLA fund.

The MLA was arrested under Case No 2/2021 registered by the Chief Minister Vigilance Cell.

After he was produced before the court, the CM vigilance cell has sought 5-day custody of Sherman Ali.

Earlier, the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee), on Monday, suspended Baghbor MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed from the Congress party. A press statement from APCC stated that APCC president Bhupen Bora had suspended Sherman Ali Ahmed from the Congress party with immediate effect for "repeatedly violating party discipline". On Sunday, the Assam Congress Legislature Party (CLP) had unanimously recommended APCC "to take disciplinary action against MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed for repeatedly violating party discipline".

After the recent Gorukhuti incident, Sherman Ali Ahmed made some 'insulting comments' against the martyrs of the Assam Agitation. His comments led to public outrage and various organizations lodged FIRs against him in different police stations in the State. He was arrested on Saturday and on Sunday he was produced before the Court of the CJM (Chief Judicial Magistrate) and remanded him to two-day police custody.
