Dibrugarh: A fatal road accident on the iconic Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh marred Independence Day celebrations, leaving one dead and two others injured.

The mishap took place near pillar number 3 of the bridge when a Bolero vehicle collided with a motorcycle. The impact was so intense that the Bolero overturned, while the motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. He was rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), where doctors declared him dead.

Two passengers of the Bolero also suffered injuries and were admitted to AMCH for treatment.

The incident occurred on India’s 79th Independence Day at Bogibeel Bridge — the country’s longest rail-cum-road bridge and a lifeline connecting the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra.
