NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker has designated MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa to head the Indian delegation for the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) scheduled to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 18-20 February 2025. Kiran Choudhry, Rajya Sabha MP, will be part of the delegation.

The APA consists of 43 member parliaments covering the entire Asian continent and serves as a platform for parliamentary cooperation and interaction. The theme of the upcoming plenary session is going to be "Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation in Asia." The theme highlights cooperation between the countries of Asia to counter challenges that affect them collectively and develop their diplomatic relations.

During the session, the delegates will hold a general debate and discuss a number of resolutions related to social, cultural cooperation, and economic and sustainable development in the region. The debate aims to consolidate a greater insight into the contributions parliamentary diplomacy can make towards enhancing peace, stability, and prosperity in Asia.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) is an inter-parliamentary institution established in 2006 with the goal of promoting peace, harmony, and cooperation among the countries of Asia. The APA provides a forum for discussing issues of the region and facilitating multilateral cooperation by parliamentary diplomacy. It deals with major issues like sustainable development, social justice, and resource sharing to benefit all.

The holding of regular plenary and committee meetings allows for the sharing of ideas and formulation of resolutions that inform legislative initiatives between member states.
