Assam: Municipal Projects To Mandatorily Show Details, Contacts of Contractor, Engineer

GUWAHATI: In what may be described as an attempt to bring transparency in works of municipal projects and help people, the Assam government has ordered that all project sites of municipal boards and corporations across the state must have a notice board to display the name, address and contact information of the contractor and supervising engineer in connection with the respective project.

Minister for urban affairs Ashok Singhal made this announcement on Saturday, making it must for all project sites under the purview of municipal boards to have necessary arrangements so that the details of the contractor and supervising engineer are shown for help of the common masses.

Talking to newsmen about the matter, Singhal said the order, which was passed on August 27 (Friday), has been given with the objective to help people. Citizens can contact the contractor and engineer directly if they face any sort of trouble owing to the project's implementation, the minister said.

Apart from the contractor and supervising engineer's details, the notice boards will also have other details like the total cost of the project along with the dates of start and completion of the project.

The minister revealed that the government is making efforts to bring over 50 reforms in municipal boards and corporations. Among them, 27 reforms have already been executed for people's benefits, he said. Singhal also said the department is mulling to facilitate online registration and renewal of trade licenses.

It is expected that the government's move to bring transparency in municipal works would be helpful for the common people in the days ahead.
