Assam: NABARD DGM Inaugurates Gwjwnsri Gorai Rural Haat in Ultapani

KOKRAJHAR: The Gwjwnsri Gorai Rural Haat, situated at Ultapani under Ultapani-Labanyapur VCDC near Bhutan border, was inaugurated by Sreeram V Iyer, DGM NABARD, Assam Regional Office, Guwahati, on Tuesday.

The programme was attended by Kuntal Purkayastha, DDM NABARD, Kokrajhar, BDO Kokrajhar, Chairman of Ultapani - Labanyapur VCDC, Forest Range Officer, Ultapani, Convenor of Media Cell Kokrajhar, founder of Gorai Bazar, officials of project implementing agency Green Leaf, and project beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Sreeram V Iyer, DGM, NABARD, congratulated NGO-Green Leaf for successfully implementing the project in Gwjwnsri, the remotest part of the district. He advised the Bazar committee to maintain proper hygienic conditions inside the haat and urged the vendors to deposit maintenance fee for creating corpus towards future maintenance of the haat. Kuntal Purkayastha, DDM NABARD, Kokrajhar, told that the project for construction of new Rural Haat with raised platform, proper shed, and toilet facility in an area of 150 square metre was sanctioned by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Assam Regional Office, Guwahati to Green Leaf NGO, Kokrajhar on March 15, 2024, to facilitate the marketing of vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, etc. for the women vendors, farmers, producers, SHGs etc. The new Gwjwnsri Gorai Rural Haat is expected to cater to the needs of 18 to 20 villages covering more than 1100 households. Presently, the bazar operates every day from 3 to 6 PM with vendors from 18 to 20 nearby villages selling mostly vegetables, fish, meat, etc. Apart from getting direct benefit by 40 vendors, additional 200 vendors are expected to be indirectly benefited from the new haat.
