NAGAON: In a significant move, IAS, District Magistrate Nagaon, Devashish Sharma, on August 5, ordered the temporary closure of access to the Hodhodi Waterfall area by the general public for any recreation/picnic purpose, including bathing/swimming, etc., and also restricts the movement of private vehicles leading to the Hodhodi Waterfall area through Loongsong Tea Estate. This move comes in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Section 163 of the BNSS.
Several untoward incidents, including accidents and loss of human life, have been frequently occurring at Hodhodi Waterfall (recreation/picnic spot) located at Loongsong Tea Estate, approximately 35 km from Nagaon Town, within Kaliabor Revenue Circle.
Reports received from the Circle Officers, Samaguri and Kaliabor Revenue Circles, corroborate the findings that most of these incidents involve students/youngsters engaging in recreation/picnic activities in and around the Hodhodi Waterfall area.
In order to maintain public safety, it has become essential to take immediate preventive measures by imposing restrictions on the movement of the general public within the periphery of Hodhodi Waterfall.
However, this restriction shall not apply to official departmental activities duly authorised by the concerned authorities. Additionally, this order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in operation until further notice.
Earlier, the Public Works (Roads) Department, Borkhola Territorial Road Sub-Division, has ordered the immediate suspension of all vehicular and pedestrian movement over the subway of Bridge No. 17/1 across the Harang River amid a significant rise in the water level the River.
