Goalpara: The Assam Nath Jogi Students’ Union in its Goalpara district convention at Budhipara Agia on Friday demanded a satellite-based autonomous council for their people living around the State. “The constitutional rights of the Nath Jogi people should be given a safeguard through this autonomous council,” said state president Lakkhan Nath.
On the other hand, state secretary Aravinda Nath demanded the Nath Jogi people be given the Scheduled Tribe status. “Not only that, reservation of assembly seats should be made available for our people based on majority,” he said.
The convention also warned the State government of strong agitation if their demands are not fulfilled. The meeting was presided over by district president Hridayananda Nath and anchored by secretary Uddhav Ch. Nath.
There are about 43 lakh people of this community in the State scattered mostly in middle and Lower Assam including the Goalpara district. The Nath Jogi Students’ Union has been the part of the Anti-CAA movement in the State being led by the AASU.
