DIBRUGARH: The inaugural ceremony of the National Pragati Dialogue was held at the Ranghar Auditorium of Dibrugarh University on Friday.

The event, which began at 4 pm, saw the participation of students from Assam and various other parts of India who had gathered to take part in the “National Youth Statement on BRICS.” Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Jiten Hazarika and Registrar Paramananda Sonowal were present at the event. Pragya Prasun, recipient of the Nari Shakti Puraskar, attended the programme as the chief guest.

Following the welcome address by Registrar Paramananda Sonowal, Vice-Chancellor Dr Jiten Hazarika addressed the students. Chief guest Pragya Prasun subsequently spoke about various aspects of acid attacks.

As a survivor of an acid attack, Prasun spoke about the causes of such attacks, the physical and psychological trauma faced by survivors and the ways in which they can rebuild their lives with confidence. She has also founded the Atijeevan Foundation, which works with women across India who have survived acid attacks.

As part of the cultural programme, Ayush Dutta, a student of the Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University, presented a Sattriya dance performance.

This was followed by a satirical play titled “Naak” (Nose), staged by students of the university’s Dr Bhupen Hazarika Department of Performing Arts. The play was based on the political situation in Assam and received appreciation from the audience.

A group of students from the Ajmal Foundation also presented a multi-dimensional dance performance, followed by a group song by another team of students.

The colourful and inspiring programme concluded at 6:30 pm with a warm response from the students and guests present.
