Guwahati: Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Vijaya Rahatkar, held a crucial review meeting with the Chief Secretary of Assam and other senior officials of the state administration.
The meeting focused on evaluating the implementation and impact of various women-centric schemes launched by both the Central and State Governments. These include programs aimed at women’s safety, empowerment, health, and economic inclusion.
An important part of the discussions centered around the enforcement of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) across departments, institutions, and offices in Assam. The Chairperson emphasized the need for strict adherence to POSH guidelines and regular monitoring mechanisms to ensure a safe and respectful work environment for women.
Rahatkar also highlighted the importance of inter-departmental coordination to streamline the delivery of services and reach intended beneficiaries more effectively. She appreciated the efforts of the Assam Government and urged officials to identify gaps, strengthen monitoring, and ensure accountability at all levels.
The meeting marks a significant step in fostering collaborative governance to safeguard women’s rights and enhance gender equality across the state.
