Assam NDRF Organizes Campaign on Tree Plantation

Guwahati: In Association with Forest department Guwahati, Assam NDRF organized a campaign on ‘Tree plantation and water bodies cleaning’ at Deepor Beel, Umananda Temple, Azara PHC, NDRF campus Changsari, Mirza, Patgaon, Barpeta, Jorhat, Cachar, Bongaigaon, Assam, Agartala (Tripura) & Aizawl (Mizoram) from August 26 to September 4. The plantation drive was organized to generate awareness about providing natural shade in open spaces by increasing green cover which will help in reducing urban heat island effect & improving air quality, stated a press release.

During this campaign 4500 saplings were planted by NDRF & Forest department. The purpose of the drive was to promote & protect the green cover in the country.

During the campaign Sh. R S Gill, Officiating Commandant said, “We are thankful to Forest department for providing saplings. Tree plantation is very important for the community & this initiative will go a long way in inculcating awareness among the people about environment conservation. Let us all resolve to use only cloth bags and make a polythene free zone.”
