Assam: NECTAR Inaugurates Demo Farm Lab At Karbi Anglong

KARBI ANGLONG: Demo Farm Lab and Training Center under Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, was officially inaugurated by Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma (Director General, NECTAR) on Tuesday.

On this day, an interaction was held with the farmers to mark the inauguration of this Demo Farm, in which the Chief Guests were Dr. A.K. Yadav (Chief Consultant, MOVCD-NER), Dr. Usha Dixit (Scientist-F, AI Division, Dept. of Science and Technology), Dr. Meraj Alam Ansari (Sr. Scientist -Agronomy, ICAR-IIFSR), Dr. Biman Chandra Barua (Scientific Officer and Head (i/c), ASTEC), Dr. P.K. Singh (Principal Scientist, NBPGR), Dr. Krishna Kumar (Advisor-Technical, NECTAR), Dr. Collin Z Renthlei (Advisor-Technical, NECTAR), Shri Simon Phukan (Senior Administrative Officer, NECTAR), Shri Rakesh Kumar Sarmah (Chief Coordinator -Technical, NECTAR), Dr. Prabhat Borpuzari (Regional Officer, NECTAR), Sh. Bakul Saikia (State Officer, NECTAR), Dr. Harajyoti Mazumdar (State Officer, NECTAR), Dr. Raktim Borkotoky (Research Associate, NECTAR), Dr. Sunita Upadhaya (Research Associate, NECTAR), Ms. Sulkshana Borah (Research Associate, NECTAR), Shri. Bharat Phukan (Technical Officer, NECTAR) and Shri. Pranjal Saikia (MIS-Coordinator, NECTAR).

NECTAR (North East Center for Technology Application and Reach) is implementing the project titled “Promoting Scientific Organic Agriculture in North East India” which aims to create 250 organic clusters across Northeastern states targeting 250 Master trainers and 25000 Trainee farmers. One of the major components under this project is the establishment of Demo Farm Lab.

The programme laid focus on the importance of Demo Farm Lab and its role in organic agriculture with an interaction session with all the Master Trainers and Trainee Farmers aimed to equip the farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to train others in organic farming practices.

During the event, android mobile phone was distributed among the Master Trainers of five selected clusters of Karbi Anglong. Another highlight of the programme is live demonstration of soil testing kit – Vasundhara (a technology transferred from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai to NECTAR) to our farmers for testing soil organic carbon content and its pH.
