GUWAHATI: Assam is also set to get its new assembly building on the coming Sunday. It has been announced that the new building of the Assam Legislative Assembly is to be opened on July 30 and the inauguration of the same is to be done by the speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla. Chief Minister Himanta Bisawa Sarma and Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Sarbanada Sonowal are expected to attend this inaugural event along with other dignitaries.
The Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Numal Momin made this announcement. He also mentioned that all current and former members of the Assam Legislative Assembly have been invited to attend this event and they expected to attend the same. He also mentioned that the state administration is fully prepared for this event.
Numal Momin added that this new assembly building is expected to have several new features and that they are planning for an e-Vidhan that will also open very shortly in the new building. He also mentioned that this project has a very modern approach and that the next session of the Assam Assembly will be hosted in the next building. He added that the construction of the new building was started long back and that it has been re-designed to add modern features.
Recently the felling of trees in the state inside the Assam Legislative Assembly premises under the cover of darkness raised several questions. The engineers of the state also seem to make the minimum efforts to minimize the felling of trees while making designs for projects and roads. The norm set by the Central Government to plant saplings against the felling of trees under the ‘compensatory afforestation programme has no takers in the state.
