DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi officially opened the newly constructed District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) at the DC's office, marking a significant step forward in the district's disaster management efforts on Tuesday. This facility is part of a broader initiative by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority to establish eight such centers in disaster-prone areas across the state.
The DEOC is intended to act as a focal point for gathering and spreading vital information during emergencies, allowing for proper communication with concerned departments and higher government authorities. "This center will improve our disaster response coordination. Having a dedicated facility enables us to centralize operations and enhance our reaction time when every second counts," Kairi said. He emphasized the importance of timely intervention in curbing risks associated with natural calamities such as floods and earthquakes.
With advanced communication systems and monitoring equipment, the DEOC will track impending natural disasters which are a regular occurrence in the region. In the event of an emergency, the center will function round the clock to ensure efficient transmission of vital information between field units, emergency services, and administrative authorities, minimizing response time and saving lives in the process.
The inauguration function was graced by a few district officials, including additional DC (revenue and disaster management) Bipul Kumar Das and assistant commissioner Pooja Borah, besides delegates from some of the departments that will assist the DEOC during times of crisis.
