KAMRUP: Tensions erupted at Tularam Bafna Kamrup District Civil Hospital following the death of a newborn, with the grieving family accusing hospital staff of negligence. The bereaved family staged a protest at the hospital, demanding justice while carrying the deceased infant.

Gynecologist Dr. Nikunja Deka admitted Dolly Kakoti, a resident of Muktapur Bharali Supa, on December 13. She delivered a baby boy on Saturday. However, the newborn was referred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) due to critical health complications, where he tragically passed away.

The family has alleged gross negligence on the part of Dr. Nikunja Deka and Dr. Pallav Lochan Sharma, holding them accountable for the infant’s death. Heated confrontations between the victim’s family and hospital staff further escalated the situation.

Police personnel from North Guwahati's Gauripur outpost deployed in response to the growing unrest to restore order and prevent the situation from escalating further. Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the allegations.

In another similar incident on December 12, tensions broke out at the Boko Polyclinic and Research Centre after a 45-year-old woman, Himani Kalita, from Sishapith village, died following allegations of medical negligence.

The family claims that no doctor attended the patient for over three hours, and the patient tragically passed away at 5:00 pm. The situation has raised questions regarding the hospital’s handling of the case and has prompted calls for an investigation into the alleged negligence.
