Guwahati: To ensure smooth train operations and enhance safety, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continues to take action against unauthorized encroachments on railway property.

Such occupations obstruct maintenance work, pose security threats, and contribute to criminal activities, including drug abuse.

NFR remains committed to safeguarding railway infrastructure and preventing illegal occupations through regular surveys and eviction drives.

On February 7, 2025, a large-scale eviction drive was conducted at the New Guwahati Complex under the Lumding Division. Supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chandmari, the operation involved 20 railway officials and staff from New Guwahati, along with 24 officers and personnel from the local police.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) also assisted in the operation. A total of 68 unauthorized quarters were cleared, adding to the 103 evicted quarters this month.

During the operation, four individuals were arrested for illegally re-entering previously vacated railway quarters. ACP Chandmari briefed all personnel beforehand to ensure the drive was carried out in a lawful and peaceful manner.

In a separate eviction drive on the same day, NFR took action in the Maligaon and Pandu areas of the Lumding Division. The Railway Engineering Department, supported by the RPF from Kamakhya post and the Jalukbari Police, successfully evicted illegal occupants from 10 railway quarters without any disturbances.
