Assam: Numaligarh Refinery Limited launches multipurpose projects in Sankar Beel

GOLAGHAT:  Under the direct initiative of the Social Development Department of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), an ambitious scheme along with fisheries was launched today in Sankar Beel of Morangi Saror Gaon.

In this regard, a meeting was held in the presence of Chief General Manager of Social Development and Human Resources Department of NRL Dr Kajal Saikia, General Manager Mintu Handique, Senior Manager Paresh Baishya, Deputy General Manager Bishwa Mohan Bora, District Fisheries Officer, Morangi Revenue Circle Officer, and local dignitaries. At the end of the meeting, a total of two quintals of Pisces of different species such as advanced species of Rohu, Bahu, Grass carp, Kamal cut, etc. were released in the beel. It has been decided to re-open the fish ponds in a phased manner. Leaving a total of 30 quintals of fresh fish, a target has been set to cultivate fish in the Beel on an experimental basis. It is to be noted that on August 29, 2024, an initiative was taken to clean the villages of Morangi Sar, Pani Kora, and Bholaguri Sankar Beel located just below the National Highway 39.

Along with this, the target has also been set to make arrangements for rural tourism in various water bodies. Accordingly, a boat race will be held on April 22. In addition to this, it was decided to set up a solar irrigation system for the farmers so that they could cultivate the fields and the local people could do agricultural work round the year.
