Assam: On Teron Appointed To Committee For Tribal Film & Literature Festival

DIPHU: On Teron, a distinguished young poet and writer from Karbi Anglong District of Assam, has been appointed to a 14-member committee for the prestigious Tribal Film & Literature Festival. The official announcement was made by the Director of the Assam Institute of Research for Tribals & Scheduled Castes, Government of Assam.

The committee consists of respected intellectuals from Northeast India, including Kishor Kumar Das, Head of the Department of Cinematography at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute, and Dr. Bimal Krishna Sharma, Nodal Officer at the same institute.

Other notable members are Padmashri Mamang Dai, Prof. Anil Boro from the Department of Folklore Research at Gauhati University, and Gunjallkar Munda, a well-known researcher and educator in Tribal Studies.

The primary objective of the committee is to choose a curator for the festival, who will manage the event and make sure everything goes well. The curator will be responsible for making the festival catalogue, editing a book of tribal poetry, being part of the film festival jury, and helping the organizers with the event.

On Teron, hailing from Rongthelu in Manja, Karbi Anglong, has been a prominent representative of the Karbi tribe at national forums. His impressive body of work includes participation in the Tribal Literature Festival in Bhopal (2019), the National Tribal Writers Meet in Ranchi (2019), the Tribal Poet’s Meet in New Delhi (2018), the Northern & Northeast Writer’s Meet in Bhopal (2018), the Arunachal Literature Festival (2018), the Poetry Presentation Program in Tripura (2021), and the International Poet’s Meet in Kerala (2022).

The Tribal Film & Literature Festival aims to celebrate and promote tribal culture, literature, and filmmaking, offering a stage for artists and writers to present their work.
